Innovation at work
Andersen’s Innovation Edge
At Andersen, innovation is part of what makes us different and better. It is a mentality that’s woven into everything we do. We design new products for the way people live and we're always looking for new ways to advance the fenestration industry with disruptive technology solutions that elevate the homeowner experience and contribute to a healthier environment.
Patenting our innovations is a critical element of our industry leadership and legacy of success. Today, we hold more patents than any other major window and door company. Each patent represents a unique solution developed by our Andersen team to address a customer need and open new opportunities.
“We have a stream of innovators continuing our legacy of leadership through innovation and we’re grateful to them for their vision, knowledge, creativity and drive. Our ability to protect their innovations through patents allows us to continue to create unique value for Andersen and our customers,” Andersen’s top Research, Development and Innovation leader and Senior Vice President Brandon Berg shared.
Longtime Inventor Shares Passion in his Work
One of our most prolific patent inventors, Todd Bruchu, started in Andersen’s research and development department in the late 1980s. He’s seen a lot of successes — such as the creation of our Renewal by Andersen business — and some failures, too. With 23 patents to his name over time, Todd said what keeps him engaged in his work is the legacy of innovation that he and his peers contribute to every day.
“A lot of people have put their heart and soul into innovating new products and delighting customers — maintaining our status as the leader in the industry,” Todd said. “Once in a while you get lucky, and you come up with a solution that meets everyone’s needs and is worth protecting with a patent.”
As a 121-year-old company, Andersen has reinvented itself time and again to meet the needs of a changing marketplace. Todd’s work has significantly contributed to Andersen’s reputation for innovation. And at the core of our problem-solving, he said, is our dedication to our customers.
“You never set out to get a patent on something, you consider the problem and what are the simple solutions,” Todd shared. “It always starts with satisfying the customer, and not just satisfying the customer, but delighting the customer.”
