The T-House

Beaufort, South Carolina

The importance of natural light, passive air flow and building materials that stand up to the marshy, hot and humid region of South Carolina were careful considerations for this age-in-place home design. The footprint of the home resembles the letter T and is where the project gets its name. Traditionally the design is wrapped in porches, but in this case, deep roof overhangs to provide the extra shade and protection from the driving rain. Inside, tall ceilings pull warm air away from the occupants and in combination with the open layout, this natural air flow helps prevent mold and mildew. Andersen® 400 Series windows and A-Series patio doors with Stormwatch® protection help keep the interior of the house cool, dry and rich in natural sunlight.
