Weapon-free work environment policy
Objective and Policy Statement
To ensure a safe work environment free of violence for all employees, Andersen Corporation and each of its subsidiaries (“Andersen” or “the company”) prohibits the possession or use of dangerous weapons while at company facilities or while performing work.
Dangerous weapons, including guns, explosives and other weapons are not permitted on company property or while an employee or contract worker is conducting company business elsewhere, unless permitted by law.
Covered Individuals
All Andersen workers are subject to this policy, including contract workers and temporary employees, as well as visitors, guests, vendors and customers on company property. A license to carry a weapon does not supersede this policy.
Definitions
“Company property” is defined as all company-owned or leased buildings and surrounding areas such as sidewalks, walkways, driveways and parking lots under the company’s ownership or control. This policy applies to all company-owned or leased vehicles and all vehicles that come onto company property.
“Dangerous weapons” include firearms, explosives, knives, and other weapons that might be considered dangerous or that could cause harm. Employees are responsible for making sure that any item in the employee’s possession or control is not prohibited by this policy.
Searches of Personal Property
Unless prohibited by applicable law, Andersen reserves the right to search all company-owned or leased vehicles, personal vehicles, backpacks, briefcases, purses, packages or other items, and to search persons entering company property, as well as lockers, desks and other areas to determine the presence of a weapon on company property or while an employee or worker is working, in violation of this policy. Employees who fail or refuse to promptly permit a search under this policy will be subject to disciplinary action, which may include termination of employment.
Consequences of Violation
Violations of this policy, regardless of whether the law has been violated, will not be tolerated. Any employee who violates this policy will be subject to disciplinary action which may include termination of employment.
Enforcement
This policy is administered and enforced by the Corporate Security department. Anyone with questions or concerns specific to this policy should contact the Corporate Security department at Security@andersencorp.com
